Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are your fees?
We keep our prices very competitive by not using external agencies. Our fee is based on a total venue time of up to 6 hours, e.g. 6pm - midnight for five musicians, which covers the vast majority of our events. Times can be varied so please phone or email for a bespoke quote.
Why choose 'The Lateshift' in preference to other bands?
We offer brilliant quality entertainment at great value for money. The band is professional and has played at many weddings, parties and functions. We dress suitably for events and will be as discrete as possible when setting up. Our quality P.A. system, amazing lights, great set lists and stunning performances will set up any event to be the one you want and deserve. Most of our work comes from satisfied customers who recommend us to others. Don't just take our word for it, check out our Testimonies from other happy clients.
Can I view the band before booking?
We are confident that - just by listening to the Online Demos, reading the testimonies and seeing how many gigs we do - you'll be satisfied we are right for you. If you really want to come and see us then we do gig locally in a select few pubs. See our list of Gigs and let us know if you are able to make one.
Do you accept first dance requests?
We will consider first dance requests, but given that your first dance song is very special, we suggest it's better to have the original track playing via our P.A. Please let us know what this is before your party/event and we will source the recording of your choice, free of charge. If you really would like the band to play it live then there would be an extra cost for this service.
How are your sets decided?
We know what works well and what songs group together to keep the floor packed with people of all ages. Our sets do change as we bring in new material, but we select from our current playlist & decide the running order to make sure that the right songs are grouped to give you & your guests a memorable event. We can add your requests from our playlist, but to ensure a polished performance we ask that the running order is a band decision.
What sort of venues have you played at?
The Lateshift have performed at a wide variety of venues from function rooms to outdoor events, halls, hotels, pubs, clubs, museums, on top of lorries, etc. We are happy to perform in marquees or outdoors if the weather allows it. No venue has ever posed a problem for us..
Do you charge extra for PA & Lighting? or anything else?
No. We provide our own high quality professional PA system for up to 300 guests which is included in any quote for the band. For weddings and functions our full lighting rig is included, subject to available space (6x3 metres minimum). Transport costs for gigs have to be calculated if we have to travel more than 50 miles outside Exeter/ Exmouth area. We have played in front of thousands and normally employ regular sound engineers with larger rigs for such occasions.
How long do you need to set up, and when do you set up?
It is essential that we have sufficient time to set up and sound-check, which normally takes one & a half hours, dependent on how easy it is to get into the room. We normally set up at least 2 hours prior to our performance. If an earlier set-up is required pre 6pm (e.g. before speeches etc) then a charge for our extra time would apply.
How long do you play for?
The Lateshift provide you with two hours of great live music consisting of 2 x1 hour sets generally finishing by midnight, but we can tailor this to fit in with your requirements. Alternatively 3 x 40 minutes sets can be provided. After the show, we are happy to leave music playing through our PA system whilst we pack up; Usually this allows an additional 30 minutes of music before we reach the stage of switching off the main PA.
What time would you usually start your performance?
We fit in completely with your arrangements, but sometimes find that we are asked for start times that are too early in the evening.
You and your guests need to have sufficient time for your meal to digest a little and then get in the mood for dancing. Also time is needed for evening guests to arrive. We recommend a start time of no earlier than 8.30pm. We are happy to start earlier but we find that events with a later start tend to run much more smoothly.
A typical format would be - your first dance at around 9pm with our 1st set straight afterwards until 10pm. This would normally be followed by an evening buffet/ break / P.A dance music at approx. 10pm (if you are having one), then our 2nd set from 10.30pm until 11.30pm and music finishing by midnight.
Do you provide background/dancing music/ DJ?
Yes. The band comes equipped with an extensive collection of popular wedding/party/function tunes played via professional DJ software either before, after and between the sets if required. If you have any particular preferences please let us know them 2 weeks before the event.
Is your equipment safety tested and are you insured?
All of our equipment is PAT Tested to current Health and Safety Regulations and we lay out all electrical equipment and instruments as neatly and safely as possible. We hold current Public Liability Insurance to the value of £5million Pounds
Do you require a deposit before the event?
We require a 30% deposit before the event to secure the gig and a written contact signed by both sides. This gives you peace of mind and security that we are a professional band.
If you have any other questions then please phone or email us
